Swap-O-Rama Rama! Sunday, September 11

This week at The Scrap Exchange, we're busy getting ready to host a Swap-O-Rama-Rama right here in our new home at 923 Franklin St. in Durham! We decided to have this one as part of our Grand (Re)Opening celebration, which is coming up this weekend (September 10 and 11).  The Swap is scheduled on Sunday, 9/11 from noon to 4pm.

What is Swap-O-Rama-Rama?  It's a huge community clothing swap!  This marks the eighth Swap we've worked on, but the first we've had in Durham since spring 2009. Our swaps are based on a model created by artist Wendy Tremayne; you can find out full details at the Swap-O-Rama Rama website.)   For those of you who've never been to one, here are some of the highlights.

First of all, the most important thing is the CLOTHES!

Tons of 'em. We need to get all of those clothes that are languishing in closets back into circulation.
You bring clothes... we sort them and add them to clothes donated by others... and then you search through the huge piles and take whatever you want and as much as you want!

The event is also designed to promote Creativity Over Consumerism, so there are stations set up around the room where you can alter and embellish the clothes you've found.   DIY stations will incude sewing machines, sewing notions and tools, an ironing board, trim and accessory supplies, fabric paint, and much more!

And we have volunteers on hand to help you figure things out.

Most of all,  it's fun, fun, FUN.  As an added bonus, music will be provided throughout the afternoon by Durham's own DJ Piddypat.  And since the Swap is right here at The Scrap Exchange, you can also shop in our retail store for amazing fabric, vintage sewing patterns, notions and other fabulous supplies to take home and continue the creative reuse experience.
