*Beaver Madness Art Show

Hello Hello Everyone!
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself to you as the new Retail Store Manager.
I have been working outreach events for the past year and am thrilled to continue supporting this incredible creative re-use center.
We have a packed schedule ahead of us this month including Beaver Madness and the Swap-O-Rama-Rama. Just to entice you with some more details, the Scrap Exchange is
featuring a "Beaver Aesthetics" show this month at our Art Gallery! The opening
is this Friday, May 15th from 6-9pm at our Green Gallery. Imagine fur meets lovely ladies and beaver fashions straight from the pageant cat walk.

Next up: Swap-O-Rama-Rama, Saturday May 16th from 11-4 pm at the Durham Armory (220 Foster St).

Don't miss this incredible multi-generational friendly event that encourages thrift, design and FaSHION!! all at once!

Well, actually if you do there IS another one in Raleigh at Marbles, September 5th from 11-4pm (201 E. Hargett St.)

Swap-O-Rama-Rama is a GIANT Clothing swap hosted each year by the Scrap Exchange!
The suggested donation is $10 because once clothes are sorted, one can trade to your heart's desire. And, then.. once you have found your must needed accessory you can go to one our Workshop rooms to sew, tailor and even SCREEN PRINT a design on your new "outfit".

Throughout the day there will be fashion SHOWCASES of each artist's designs (all are welcome!) catwalk, anyone?

Hope to see you there!

Alexis and the amazing SCrap-tastic crew

Au revoir

It was with mixed emotions that I greeted my last day as retail manager at The Scrap Exchange. I’m excited (and terrified) to begin my new job as a mom, but I will miss coming to the store every day. After 4 ½ years, The Scrap Exchange has become my second home. I have met so many friends here (including my husband) and I will be sad not to see them on a regular basis (except, of course, the aforementioned husband).

The Scrap Exchange is a wonderful place to work and I have been continually inspired by the materials we’ve collected as well as the creativity and kindness of our customers and staff. I will of course remain a loyal customer and will occasionally fill in when needed, so you may see me shopping or working in the future. Thanks to all of you for the wonderful times I have had here. I am sure you will be as welcoming to the new manager, Alexis, as you were to me.

Fabric Painting

Another piece from one of our fabulously talented customers! It's gorgeous! This is what Tammi had to say:
" I call this type of work 'fabric paintings' because I use the fabric in a way similar to the way I would lay down paint on a canvas.
This piece is made entirely from fabric sample books I bought at the Scrap Exchange."

Thanks for sharing! Check out Tammi's website: www.seesbeauty.com
