Friends and Family Show Installation Underway!

This is the week to bring your scrappy art in to The Scrap Exchange and show it off to the community! We have begun installation for our Friends and Family Show, an open-hanging exhibit where we invite artists of all ages, mediums and experience to display their work in our Green Gallery.

As detailed in a previous post, artist submissions must incorporate materials that are recycled, reused, reclaimed or repurposed. Artists my submit two pieces, and all items must be priced for sale. You can drop your artwork off this week on Monday (July 12) or Tuesday (July 13) from 3 pm-5 pm, and on Wednesday (July 14) from 3 pm-7 pm.

The opening for this exhibit is Friday July 16 from 6pm - 9 pm. We invite our participating artists to invite THEIR friends and family to the opening to mix and mingle with our friends and family as we celebrate this display of community scrap art.

Questions? Call the store at 919-688-6960. We can't wait to see all the great art submitted this week!

Join The Scrap Exchange for a Free Movie on Friday July 9th

Looking for something to do this Friday? Enjoy a FREE outdoor movie and show your support for the Scrap Exchange! Come out to American Tobacco Campus on July 9th and enjoy a free screening of Wasteland, the winner of the Full Frame Festival's 2010 audience award. Wasteland is an inspiring documentary about artist Vic Muniz, who creates art from recycled materials that most people consider garbage. The screening starts at 9 pm on AmericanTobacco's main lawn. And while you're there, please wear GREEN to show support for the Scrap Exchange! The Scrap Exchange will be raising awareness and recruiting volunteers for a future community arts event and fundraiser. Let's show the crowd that creative recycling is happening right here at home!

More information on the documentary Wasteland can be found at http://www.fullframefest.org/events.php .

See you at the movies on Friday night!
